The masthead
of this school magazine is ‘WELCOME’ this was probably chosen as the title
because they are trying to portray themselves as an open welcoming school to
all pupils. The title is embolden and in upper case letters, which I presume is
a way of making it stand out and the upper case letters really makes it look
like they’re emphasising the word ‘welcome’. As what most successful magazines
have placed the masthead at the top of the page.
The mastheads
colour scheme is fitting for the magazine because the background is mainly
filled with blues, whites and yellows, it has an unusual title using upper case
letters with an emboldened font, but this works for the magazine as it’s the
first thing you see when you look at the magazine, which makes it more
attractive to young people.
The colour
scheme for the masthead further supports that they are sticking to a theme
using mainly blues, whites and yellows as their magazine cover. Contrasting the
big and bold colour of the black makes the title even more striking and is
effective in making it more for the younger generation.
The main
image depicted on the front cover is of a young girl-presumably a pupil of the
school white shirt, navy blazer and a blue and yellow stripes tie will undoubtedly
be recognised as the schools uniform.
Through wearing
the uniform as a student of the school, readers would be able to relate to the
figure on the cover and her smiling face increases her likeability furthermore.
At the top right hand side of the magazine below the masthead, you can see a
puff which advertises the magazine as only 15p which really increases the
magazines appeal the younger generation because it’s so cheap.
The magazine
has 5 cover lines spread out around the cover page ranging from facts about the
school to getting involved with the school by helping to create a new school
tie. The magazines mode of address talks to us like a friend and the model at
the front making eye contact with the reader giving direct address. The teacher’s
photo on cover also shows the magazine can be for both pupils and teachers
increasing its likeability
